After a two week vacation in Brittany I was home again and, again, there was a good possibility of chasing in Flevoland. A line of storms was present to the west, with nice backlighting of the setting sun. Some storms were well developed with dense downdraft areas and before my eyes a storm organised into a possible supercell! The up- and downdraft regions were well seperated and underneath the updraft a lowering was present. The updraft was tilted and inflow phenomena were visible. The forward flank downdraft was preceeded by a small shelf cloud. I followed this storm for about half an hour and then I had to let it go, as there weren't any good roads to keep following it. To my south a line of storms was present and a roll cloud formed. Later this cloud attatched to the storm base and a shelf cloud was born. An embedded storm showed evident signs of rotation again, but no tornado formed. I tried to stay ahead of the storm and manage to do that for about an hour. Later in the evening i let it pass and tried some lightning photogaphy, but the activity ceased, ofcourse. However, it was a perfect chase over little distance and with many photo oppurtunities! Chase log, in Dutch: Tijdens de afgelopen avond heb ik ruim 3 uren in de buurt van een buiencomplex boven Flevoland doorgebracht. Rond 19.45 ben ik vanuit Soest naar het noorden vertrokken en even na 23 uur was ik weer thuis. Ik ben getuige geweest van een buienlijn met embedded actievere cellen. Een aantal van deze heeft, al dan niet kortstondige, wall clouds geproduceerd, maar behoudends lange scuds waren er geen duidelijke hoosverschijnselen te zien. Nabij een in ontwikkeling zijnde shelf cloud was overigens wel degelijk rotatie om een vertikale as waarneembaar! Als het goed is, heb ik dit nog op video staan. Verder zorgde de laagstaande zon voor een heerlijke belichting van het voornamelijk lineaire complex. Ik had niet gedacht dat ik zo lang zou gaan chasen en had dan ook geen statieven meegenomen. Dit zorgde ervoor dat ik toen het eenmaal donker was vrijwel geen bliksemfoto's kon schieten. Bummer dus! Ik heb ca 250 foto's geschoten, voor mij vrij uniek voor een chase in Nederland. |
