This day initially started out as a down day, with no slight-risk areas for convection within 1000 miles or so. However, during the afternoon storms formed in Lubbock area and N along I-27. We could see the cell from our motelroom. Went out to chase storm near Plainview.
The storm had several overshooting tops while we closed in. However, bases were high (low humidity), and the storms were vigorous but short-lived. The multicell we targeted was in its dying phase when we arrived under the updraft area - there was a nice flanking line with a turbulent base.
Two storms further south (near Lubbock TX) were severe and we decided to chase these storms. Upon arrival, these storms were dying as well, and we returned home. |
