A warm day with high temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees. In the early afternoon a storm developed near Barneveld, about 12 km east of Soest. I drove to an open field where I could see the enormous tower associated with this active storm. As the thunderstorm hardly moved and produced lots of rain, this resulted in local flooding. Also there were reports of quite large hailstones.
After about half an hour a tower was going up to my northwest. This storm developed just east of Amsterdam and was nearly stationary as well. I made a wonderful time lapse video of this event!
In the early evening a more active line of storms moved in from the east. Often these type of storms are active and are refferred to as "ostgewitter" (eastern thunder). Well, at my location no real severe weather was observed, just quite a lot of wind. Elsewhere there were problems as phonelines were disabled by lightning and rail roads got blocked by fallen trees. |
